Wexford’s Sophie Becker is through to the Olympic final…

Becker, who is part of Team Ireland’s women’s relay team, has made it through to the Olympic final for 4x400m relay.

Wexford’s Sophie Becker ran a personal best in the semi-final to help her team reach the final.  She ran a personal best time of 50.9 seconds.

Speaking after the race to RTE, Becker said:


“We did it – we’re in the final. It’s an amazing feeling. We said we were going to do it, and we did it. I’m so proud of us,” she said.

The Irish team came in third place, which means that they have now qualified for the Olympic final. The quartet finished third in their heat at the Stade de France this morning, with a total time of 3:25.05.

The women’s 4x400m final will take place tomorrow, Saturday August 10th, scheduled for 3:22 p.m.
