David Kelleher from Rosslare Strand completed the Eco-Trail Wicklow Ultra 46.5kms run last weekend…
This is his second time tackling this run, completing it last year too. This year the race had a gruelling altitude gain of 1,670m.
The route began on the Bray seaside promenade, commencing to a steep climb to the iconic cross on Bray Head. The runners then bid farewell to the Irish Sea and turn towards the mountains.
The runners then trailed across the Little and Great Sugarloaf Mountains, then passed through the scenic Belmont Estate on-route to the Wicklow Way – a 132 km trail stretching south out of Dublin.
The runners then journeyed home at the foot of the Powerscourt Waterfall and returned to Bray Head.
The event is recognised as a UTMB Index of 50k.
David formally represented Ireland in the World Masters Mountain Running Championships. Additionally, he has published a book called “Stop, Breathe, Read” which is available on Amazon, Kindle, Easons and The Book Centre in Wexford town. The book sales ranked Number 1 on the Amazon British and Irish Poetry chart in August 2023.
David recently guested on The Ireland Podcast to discuss writing, ultra marathons and representing Ireland, which is available on all good listening platforms.
