HWH Bunclody defeated Fethard St Mogues in in the Wexford Intermediate Hurling Championship quarter-final…
Penalties were needed to decide the game after the teams could not be separated – and HWH Bunclody had emerged victorious on penalties.
Fethard had appealed the result of the game to Wexford GAA and the Wexford CCC. Video evidence was presented to Wexford GAA and the Wexford CCC from the Fethard contingent. The Wexford CCC then overturned the result based on this video evidence, ruling that Fethard St Mogues would advance into the semi-final stages of the competition.
However, the situation has became even messier now.
HWH Bunclody had appealed the overturning of the game through the Leinster Council. The appeal was brought before the Leinster Council on Thursday evening, 17th October.
The Leinster Council have concluded to “strike out awarding the game to Fethard.”
“The Leinster Council hearing of our appeal against the ruling of the Wexford GAA CCC’s award of the Intermediate Hurling quarter-final has concluded.”
“Aspects of the procedures of the CCC were not in order and have struck out their award, recommending that the matter goes back to an independent CCC to be re-heard with the referee’s result on the day standing, subject to an objection from Fethard,” the Leinster Council statement reads.
The match – and the result of the match – has been a big talking point in Wexford over the past week, and this story might not be over just yet.
The delay in the semi-final being played will also likely have a knock-on effect for the Wexford Intermediate Hurling Champions, as they may not be able to contest the Leinster Club Championship if the Wexford County final has not taken place in time.
