“I thought it was a scam,” Wexford man claims after winning €500,000 in lotto

The National Lottery’s winners’ room was buzzing on Wednesday as four groups of winners collected prizes totalling an incredible €1,125,000 at Lottery HQ on 1 Georges Quay this afternoon…

First in the door was a Wexford man who collected his cheque for €500,000, which he won in the EuroMillions Plus draw on Friday 27th September after playing online.

The player revealed how he had absolutely no idea he’d won the half a million-euro prize, until Martin Monaghan from the National Lottery Prize Claims Team called him.

“I thought it was a scam”, he laughed. “Martin told me I’d won big in the EuroMillions Plus and asked me if I realised the value of my online ticket. I said no, and that’s when he told me to get a pen and paper and write down the following numbers. The zeros just kept on coming! I said to him, you’re having me on Martin!”,he added.

The Wexford man, who wishes to keep his win private, is looking forward to some home improvements and to spoiling himself for once.

Also taking home a cheque worth €500,000 was a family syndicate from Co. Dublin. The syndicate won the EuroMillions Plus Top Prize online in Friday’s 4th October draw.
