Wexford puppy Quirky Dude (Marcus) was the county finalist in Petmania’s Puppy of the Year competition, beating all other Wexford pups to attend the grand final last weekend…
This year’s competition marks the 9th year of the annual canine competition with it becoming more popular each year.
Marcus’s genuine and engaging personality won the hearts of the judges, gaining the title of Wexford Pup of The Year.
In first place was Cavapoo, Harley Alves from Athlone and his proud owners, Jane and Lily Alves, received a prize worth €1500, including a 12-month grooming care plan with Petmania, a year’s supply of dog food from Beta, a two-night staycation in a dog-friendly hotel courtesy of Blue Book, as well as a professional photoshoot and a brand ambassador contract.
In second place was Corgi, Luna Roberts Higgins from Portlaoise, while in third place was Doberman Pinscher, Quirky Dude (Marcus) from Wexford.

After reaching the grand final of the competition, Marcus’ owner, Chelsey from Wexford, stated:
“For Marcus to be a finalist means the world to us. We are super proud of our 5 month old dobermann who is growing into his big paws more and more everyday and seeing him socializing with other finalists will be a significant milestone for our gentle giant, after coming along way from being a shy and timid puppy at 8 weeks old when he joined our family,” she said.
“Being a finalist is extra sweet and special to us and to Marcus, as he is representing all well behaved friendly dogs who find themselves on the restricted breed list. So often he can be misunderstood because people just see his muzzle or because of his breed. As a result, he faces stereotypes all the time – we hope that in the final Marcus can breakdown these stereotypes and win the hearts of many by showcasing his personality, affection, friendliness, love and all round pleasant behaviour,” Chelsey told Wexford Weekly.
Petmania has 16 stores across Ireland with its 17th store due to open later this year, over 260 employees and the largest dog grooming business in the country.
