Those involved with Wexford FC were given excellent news today..
Wexford FC was one of the big winners from Monday’s unveiling of Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Funding (LSSIF) grants.
Wexford, with their men’s team in the First Division and women’s the Premier, are to be assigned €2m towards their new ground.
The Wexford FC Men’s team made it to the play-offs of the First Division this year, while they also enjoyed an excellent Cup run, just losing out in the semi-final.
Ferrycarrig Park is the current home to Wexford FC, but as their base was earmarked for being part of the M11 motorway extension, it necessitated a move to nearer Wexford town.
The funds will go towards the development of a new, state-of-the-art, 6,000 capacity football stadium situated right in the heart of Wexford town, near Min Ryan park which was opened in 2020. Their hopes was that it would also tie in well with the developments of the new SETU in Wexford.
Although it will be a lengthy step-by-step project potentially taking years to complete, the allocation of funds will be a huge boost for Wexford FC and for the sporting community in Wexford.
