On 15th November, the Grow Remote community in Wexford town will mark one full year of social meetups…
These monthly events, which take place after work on the third Friday of the month in The Sky and the Ground, are designed exclusively for remote and hybrid employees to connect socially and aim to build a sense of community among people who may be experiencing social isolation as a byproduct of their work.
As remote and hybrid working becomes more mainstream, it has opened up new job opportunities for people living in County Wexford. There were 1,965 people working from home in Wexford town at the time of the 2022 census.
This mode of working can make it more challenging for people to connect with each other in person. According to research shared by Grow Remote, the biggest challenge for remote workers is the isolation caused when they do not have a reason to leave their house.
The Grow Remote social meetups in Wexford town – led voluntarily by remote worker, Ana Butler – aim to bring people together for social connection and to raise awareness of remote working opportunities available to folks in the Wexford area.

A remote worker in Gorey, Kitti Juhasz, went along to one of these meetups and was inspired to do the same thing locally. With the support of the Grow Remote community team, Kitti started hosting Grow Remote socials in Gorey and her next event will be a dog-friendly brunch in T&T Bakery on Saturday 16th November.
This growing community of remote employees in County Wexford is part of the international Grow Remote network of volunteer groups, which supports a diverse range of social events for remote and hybrid employees in their local communities; from after work drinks and coffee meetups to yoga classes and forest walks. This year, Grow Remote has connected thousands of remote workers at almost 300 events in Portugal, Spain, England and all across Ireland.
The next Grow Remote Wexford social meetup will take place on Friday 15th November in The Sky and The Ground at 6pm.
Speaking about the impact of these events, Grow Remote Wexford Local Leader, Ana said:
“Reflecting on our one-year anniversary of Grow Remote events, it’s incredible to look back at how these gatherings have evolved into something truly special. Each month, we’ve had the joy of connecting with an amazing mix of people from all walks of life—each with unique experiences and insights to share. There’s something deeply rewarding in knowing that we’ve built a space where people feel welcomed and genuinely look forward to returning, whether they’re new to town, exploring career transitions, or simply looking to connect. This sense of belonging we’ve created together feels like the heartbeat of Grow Remote, and I couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead.”
