The Republic of Ireland team are now preparing for their next matches…
One player that has been added to the squad after some excellent performances in previous International matches coming off the bench is Wexford native, Festy Ebosele.
Speaking at his squad announcement press conference, Hallgrimsson praised the Wexford native:
“He’s knocking on the door. Festy is a bit of different kind of player. He’s really exciting and can do things that just blow your mind with that speed,” said Hallgrimsson.
“Nobody can define Festy as just one thing because he can play in multiple positions. That’s his strength. He came on against Finland and was really good—a decisive factor in that win. Maybe he wasn’t as good against Greece, but he definitely showed that he can change games. It’s great for him that he’s knocking on the door.”
It’s good news for followers of Wexford football to see one of their own reach International level and to play with the Republic of Ireland. He played his underage football with Moyne Rangers before making a move to Wayne Rooney’s Derby and then moving abroad to Italy. The wing-back is now plying his trade with Watford in the Championship where he is highly rated by the fan base.
After his excellent performance off the bench in Ireland’s last game, it’s expected that the Wexford man will start their next game against Finland.
Ireland will take on Finland at home on Thursday. Three days later, on Sunday, the Republic of Ireland will travel across the Irish sea to take on the old enemy, England, in their final Nations League match.
