Met Eireann upgrade Wexford’s coastline weather warning to Status Red

It’s not the end of the weather warnings just yet…

Irish weather forecaster, Met Éireann, have issued a Status Orange weather warning for Wexford this weekend which will remain in place. Neighbouring county of Wicklow, however, has been added to the list of the counties now under a Status Red county.

Another weather warning – a Marine Warning for Wexford’s coastline – has since been upgraded to a Status Red.

The “Status Red – Storm warning is in place from Howth Head to Wicklow Head to Carnsore Point and on the Irish Sea South of Anglesey.”

Marine Warnings are issued when dangerous marine weather conditions are happening or are likely to happen. Marine warnings are issued for conditions that threaten the safety of people and boats at sea

Met Eireann has predicted that:

“Northwest winds will reach violent storm force 11 on Irish coastal waters from Howth Head to Wicklow Head to Carnsore Point and on the Irish Sea South of Anglesey.”

The weather warning comes in place as Storm Darragh approaches the country.

A Status Orange wind warning was issued for Wexford on Thursday for this weekend.

The Irish weather forecaster, Met Eireann, have stated that some of the potential impacts will include “fallen trees,” “damage to power lines,” “difficult driving conditions,” “damage to temporary structures,” and “wave overtopping.”

The weather warning is valid from 22:00 Friday night to 10:00 Saturday morning 07/12/2024.

On Friday, Wexford was originally meant to be under a Status Yellow wind warning, however, that has also been upgraded to Status Orange.
