New Wexford County Councillor elected after Sinn Fein vote

A new Wexford County Councillor has been elected…

County Wexford is divided into 6 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office.

As Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin (55) had been elected to the Dail Éireann to act as a TD, it meant that there was a vacant position on the Wexford County Council in Gorey for a new Sinn Fein TD.

Sinn Fein held a convention on Thursday night to decide the votes.

Three candidates had went for the position of Wexford County Councillor.

Those in attendance were given an opportunity to vote.

29-year-old Gorey local, Craig Doyle, was selected as the new Wexford County Councillor for Sinn Fein following the departure of Fionntáin.

He will now represent the Gorey LEA on the Wexford County Council. Following in Fionntain’s footsteps, it means that Craig Doyle will also be Sinn Fein’s sole representative in the Gorey area – and just one of three representatives across the Wexford County Council, which include Aoife Rose O’Brien (Rosslare) and Tom Forde (Wexford).
