Former Wexford footballer brought into Wexford Senior football backroom team

A former Wexford footballer has been brought into the Wexford Senior Football backroom team…

The Wexford Senior Footballers will be out in action in their first-round Allianz Football League clash against London.

The match will be part of a double-header, with the Wexford Senior hurlers taking on Cork in the opener, which will also be their first outing of the new season. These games will take place in two week’s time, on Saturday Jan 25th.

Ahead of the new season for the Wexford Senior footballers, John Hegarty has brought in a former long-serving Wexford Senior footballer to his backroom team to help in a coaching capacity.

Brian Malone, from the Shelmaliers GAA club, has been trusted by Hegarty – who is now in his third season in charge – to help in the background in a coaching capacity.

The 37-year old stalwart retired from inter-county football in 2022, having earned an incredible 170 competitive appearances for the Purple and Gold between league and championship over sixteen seasons.

For the Wexford Senior footballers, promotion out of Division 4 of the National Football League will be their top priority. In the last few seasons, they have ran close – no more so than last season, when a controversial goal against Longford proved to be detrimental to Wexford’s hopes of promotion.

Perhaps, Malone will be the missing ingredient as the Wexford Senior Footballers bid their claim for promotion in 2025.
