Awards night takes place for Wexford Masters Hurling team

An awards night recently took place for the Wexford Masters hurling team…

In 2024, the Wexford Masters hurling team reached the All-Ireland Masters hurling final, losing out in the final to a star-studded Tipperary team in a high-scoring thriller.

The awards night, however, marked a fantastic year for the Wexford Masters hurling team, securing wins over Kildare, Limerick, Galway and Cork in the process to reach the All-Ireland hurling final.

Taking place at Bellefield GAA Complex in Enniscorthy, multiple awards were handed over on the night. They included Man of the Match awards for each game. The Man of the Match awards were as follows:

V Kildare – Declan Browne
V Limerick – Noel Carton
V Galway – Nigel Higgins
V Cork – Rory Jacob
V Tipp – Benny Jordan

An award was also given out to the ‘Most Valuable Player’ and Brendan Mulligan picked up this award.

The awards night, along with gear for the Wexford Masters hurling team, were sponsored by three local businesses. They were DR Construction, The Fowler Bar in Gorey, and Michael Kehoe from Bunclody. Ahead of the new season, the team are looking for more sponsors to come on board. Anyone interested in sponsoring the team should contact Dave Guiney.

This year’s competition is fast approaching. For the upcoming competition, two new teams have been added to the Masters All-Ireland hurling championship format. Kerry have been added to the group, while Kilkenny have also been added. The Kilkenny team for the 2025 Masters competition would be around the time of the famous 4-in-a-row Kilkenny team, so their introduction to the competition will definitely improve the competition overall with multiple former greats on the team.
