Seven Wexford hurlers to be involved in 2025 Fitzgibbon Cup final

The Fitzgibbon Cup finalists have been revealed…

DCU will take on UL (University of Limerick) in the final after they defeated Cork college UCC in the semi-final, which was held in Carlow on Tuesday evening under lights.

DCU are the university with the most Wexford representatives on their team. 7 Wexford hurlers in total were named across the match day 15 and the squad overall.

Cian Byrne (Rosslare) is the team’s goalkeeper, while Glynn Barntown clubman, Darragh Carley, who picked up one point from play, lined out in the wing-forward line for the Dublin college.

The other five Wexford hurlers on the panel include: Luke Murphy, Robbie Delaney, Cian Doyle, Eddie Kelly, and Darragh Kehoe. None of the subs listed here were brought on in the semi-final victory over UCC, a game which had James Owens as the man-in-the-middle officiating.

Overall, 17 Wexford hurlers were chosen to represent their university in the Fitzgibbon Cup for 2025, while more Wexford hurlers partook in the Ryan Cup competition.

The Fitzgibbon Cup final will take place at the Connacht Centre of Excellence on Saturday at 2:45pm. It will be broadcast live via TG4.

The Ryan Cup, which is the 2nd tier All-Ireland championship for universities, will also take place this weekend. The semi-final and final will take place over Friday and Saturday. TU Dublin will take on SETU Carlow in the first semi-final, while the Guards will take on Ulster University in the other semi-final.

Several Wexford hurlers will also take place in the Ryan Cup competition over the weekend. They include Richie Lawlor, Tucker Kinsella, Derry Mahon, Liam Shockman, and Cian Browne who will feature for TU Dublin, while Michael Dundon and Shamey O’Hagan will feature for the Carlow university.

The Ryan Cup competition will take place on the Astro turf at the Mayo dome. It was due to take place in the dome itself, but the recent storm had other plans which impacted that.
