New community astro-turf football pitch officially opens in Wexford

A new astro-turf pitch has been officially opened in Wexford…

A new astro-turf pitch, located on the Ross Road in the centre of Enniscorthy, was recently opened.

Sod was officially turned on the new astro-turf facility in June of 2023. Less than two years later, the astro-turf facility has officially opened to the public.

It has already been put to good use, with over 30 games played, but this event marked the official launch of this fantastic community facility.

Top-quality playing surface, floodlights for evening games, and modern amenities, it’s a big boost for local sports. This astro-turf will ensure that children can continue to practice their skills throughout the winter.

“Many clubs in Enniscorthy town and district will benefit from this facility, including Enniscorthy’s five soccer clubs, as well as clubs based in Caim, Bree and Castledockrell,” said Cllr Aidan Browne told the Irish Independent at the time.

The project was supported by Wexford County Council and the Wexford Football Alliance.

Another top-class astro-turf pitch was officially opened in Forth Celtic football grounds in Wexford just three months ago, in December of 2024.
