The professional boxing scene in Wexford has never been better…
With three Wexford boxers now seeking careers in the professional boxing world, there’s an excitement around Wexford as followers of boxing hope to see their natives progress.
29-year old David ‘Bomber’ Kennedy, who hails from Gorey in Wexford, will be fighting in the National Stadium in Dublin on April 12th.
At Wexford Weekly, we can exclusively reveal his opponent for the upcoming fight.
The Wexford man will be fighting Bahadur Karami. Karami, an Iranian boxer now living in Manchester and nicknamed “The Freedom Fighter,” holds a record of 4-25-4 heading into the fight.

While his opponent has been confirmed on paper, it would not be surprising if this opponent changed either. The Iranian has two scheduled bouts to take place before he fights Kennedy, and should he pick up an injury or a concussion in between, the scheduled bout will change and the promoters will need to find the Wexford man a new opponent. At the start of careers, this is the norm in the boxing world.
Kennedy, who has had a lot of success at the National Stadium, will be hoping to go 2-0 in the professional ranks in April.
In a previous interview with the Wexford man from late last month, Kennedy told us that we can expect “slick and sharp boxing” on the night, and that if “the if the knock-out presents itself, I’ll be trying my best to take that too.”
A limited number of tickets are still available. Those interested can reach out to David Kennedy directly, or contact Jordan’s Barbershop on Churchstreet in Gorey, who is stocking some remaining tickets.
Meanwhile, another pro Wexford boxer – Dean Gonzalez Furlong – will be back in action this weekend as he looks to go 4-0 in the pro boxing ranks.
