Three Wexford hurlers named on GAA.ie Team of the Week

Despite the fact that the Wexford Senior hurlers were relegated to Division 1B, they did manage to secure two good wins on the road…

Wins for the Wexford hurlers came against Clare, and then, most recently, Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds.

The Wexford Senior hurlers defeated John Kiely’s Limerick side on a score-line of 1-19 to 1-12, with the Treaty side only scoring 1-05 from play in their own backyard.

Although it was a dead-rubber match, with nothing to play for both sides, both teams are just four weeks out from Championship – and wanted to head into that on a positive note.

One of the major positives from last week’s game was Wexford’s defence, who held their own, against a star-studded Limerick attack. Another major positive was to see Kevin Foley back to his best, scoring 1-02 from play for the Model County.

Three Wexford players have been recognised for their performances against Limerick. The players who made it onto the team are Conor Hearne in midfield, Kevin Foley at wing-forward, and Cathal Dunbar who was named at corner-forward on the team.

Conor Hearne was at the heart of Wexford’s impressive win over Limerick on Saturday. The all-action midfielder scored three points from play and drove his team forward time and again. He was also nominated for the ‘Hurler of the Week’ and it was much deserved considering he been one of Wexford’s most consistent players during this year’s Allianz League campaign.
