Wexford Footballers enter the 2025 Tailteann Cup – here are all the fixture dates

The Wexford Senior Footballers bowed out of the Leinster Senior Football Championship on Saturday 5th April…

They lost out to Justin McNulty’s Laois side at Chadwicks Wexford Park on a score-line of 2-21 to 2-11. A first-half blitz by Laois, which seen them lead 1-07-0-01, made it an uphill battle for the Wexford Senior Footballers, who had recently gained promotion to Division 3 after a stellar Allianz League campaign.

It means that John Hegarty’s Wexford Senior footballers will now be placed into the 2025 Tailteann Cup.

What is the Tailteann Cup?

It is contested by county teams, which, in the given year, have not otherwise qualified for the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, and the winner is awarded the Tailteann Cup. It is a competition held annually since its inception in 2022. Westmeath, Meath, and Down have won the previous three Tailteann Cups.

Who is in the group stages with Wexford?

The group stages will be finalised after the opening rounds of the Championship for all provinces. Wexford will be placed into a group alongside two other teams knocked out of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. The top two teams from each group of three proceed to one of four knockout quarter-finals matches. It means that the Wexford Senior Footballers will have – at the very least – another two more games to play. After a rather successful League campaign, Hegarty and his charges will be hoping for a lengthy Tailteann Cup campaign. The teams will be added here once finalised.
