The Wexford Senior hurlers will host Antrim on Saturday at 2pm in Wexford Park….
It’s the first round of the Leinster Senior hurling championship and anticipation is building ahead of the new season.
One former Wexford hurler who is looking forward to the Leinster Championship is none other than Billy Byrne.
Speaking with Alan Corcoran of South East Radio, Byrne made his prediction for the upcoming clash against Antrim:
“I’m looking forward to this. I think Wexford… the fact that you have Liam Ryan back, but even the last game the way they performed against Limerick. They are showing something that they’ll be able to beat any team out there. Antrim will be coming down no doubt – they’ll pick one or two areas where they might see where they’ll be able to upset us and get a win, just like they did last year. But, I think this Wexford team has a little bit more. They’re going to be more up for the game, especially the way they got caught last year. They didn’t win it last year – and that put us under pressure – but we certainly need to win this one,” Byrne told South East Radio.
“When we look at the last 3 games that we played in the League, we have shown a bit of consistency. We’re starting to come as a team. And I think we’re coming at the right time. I’m looking forward to it. I think there’s a big year in this Wexford team, and I hope that I’m right,” Byrne said.
Wexford hurling team:

Wexford will be hoping to get off to winning ways. A win is essential to kick start their campaign, with an away clash against Dublin coming soon after.
Last year, Wexford lost out to Antrim in Corrigan Park; the team will be hoping to right some wrongs from last year’s defeat in the potential banana-skin fixture for the Yellowbellies.
