No waiting around as Wexford’s Dean Furlong pencils in new fight date

It’s safe to say that Dean Furlong is not waiting around…

The Wexford town native is now 5-0 in the professional boxing ranks.

His last two appearances in the boxing ring were in Spain, where he headlined both cards.

In March, Wexford boxer, Dean Gonzalez Furlong, made it 4-0 in professional boxing. The popular Wexford man, who brought a big local crowd, seen his fight go the distance with his tough opponent, Dmitri Blinov to go 4-0.

One month later, in April, Furlong defeated Jakub Laskowski by another unanimous decision to move to 5-0. The Wexford man has now pencilled in a fight date to take place in Spain on Saturday June 21st at the IFA in Alicante.

Once again, the Wexford man will be headlining the event – making it three headline fights in a row. It means that the young Wexford man – still aged just 22 – has fought on three headline cards in the space of just four months.

Furlong’s opponent has since been confirmed, with the bout also scheduled for six three-minute rounds. The Wexford man will be taking on Jan Balog of the Czech Republic in the headline show.

Balog holds a professional record of 16-62-1. In Balog’s last bout, he appeared at the National Stadium in Dublin, losing out to Irish boxer Eoghan Lavin in Round 1 after he went down from Lavin’s sickening body shot.

It’s safe to say that Furlong is moving in the right direction and that he’s not waiting around as he continues to build his professional record.
