The Wexford Eagles have announced the upcoming Billy Laughs Comedy Night, a heartfelt tribute to the late Billy Anderson, their beloved former Special Teams Coach...
This annual event is more than just a night of comedy; it’s a heartfelt celebration of a life that touched so many, bringing together the community to remember a man who gave so much of himself to others.
Billy Anderson, originally from Charleston, South Carolina, made an indelible mark on the Wexford community after he moved to Ireland. Known for his infectious sense of humour, unwavering love for his family, and a passionate devotion to American football, especially his beloved Notre Dame, Billy’s impact went far beyond the field. He was more than a coach; he was a mentor, a friend, and a source of continual inspiration.
Beyond the football field, Billy was a familiar face on the Irish comedy circuit, where his sharp wit and comedic timing earned him admiration and respect. His ability to make people laugh was a reflection of his generous spirit, always looking to lift others, even in their darkest moments. But his talents didn’t stop at comedy. Billy was also a respected addiction counsellor, offering guidance and support to those in need. His dedication to helping others was a testament to his character, and his loss was felt profoundly across multiple communities.
Billy was also the proud father to Finlay, the centre of everything in his world.
Tragedy struck in May 2019 when Billy was killed in a car accident while en route to a Wexford Eagles game. His sudden passing sent shockwaves through the club and the wider community. The outpouring of grief and tributes that followed was a powerful reminder of the lasting impact he had made.
The Billy Laughs Comedy Night was created as a lasting tribute, a way to keep Billy’s infectious spirit and love for laughter alive. Each year, the event brings together some of Ireland’s top comedic talents for an evening of laughter, storytelling, and community spirit. This year’s lineup features the internationally acclaimed comedic talents of Fred Cooke (as host), Chris Kent, and Tom O’Mahony, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter and unforgettable moments.
The event will take place at Breen’s Bar, Gorey, on Friday, 30th May 2025. Doors open at 7:30 pm, with the show starting at 8:00 pm. Tickets are priced at just €20, offering an evening of incredible entertainment at an unbeatable value.

Join us for a night of laughter, connection, and heartfelt remembrance as we come together to honour Billy Anderson, a coach, a comedian, a counsellor, and most importantly, a friend.
