Wexford County Councillor involved in car accident abroad

A Wexford County Councillor was involved in a car accident abroad…

A recently appointed Wexford County Councillor was in a car accident abroad, though through no fault of his own.

Wexford County Councillor, Raymond Shannon – known locally for his promotion of Mental Health services across Wexford – was involved in a car accident during his recent family travels to America.

Sharing the news on Saturday, Ray said that the incident happened on Friday night when a deer ran in front of their car:

“At 2am this morning (Friday), we left Wrens, Georgia, to go to Atlanta International Airport to catch a flight back to Boston. Unfortunately, we were in car accident on the way as a deer ran out in front of us.”

Thankfully for Ray and his family, only minor injuries such as stiffness and soreness were reported following the accident:

“We are all ok. We’re a little stiff and sore, but the car wasn’t so lucky. I have be trying all day to get flights managed to get some for tomorrow evening back to Boston. The main thing is that we are all ok. Somebody must have been watching over us,” he said.

Given that there are many fatalities in America every year from deers running at cars, it’s safe to say that they got off lucky this time – and that someone was looking down on them. It has been reported by the Federal Highway Administration that deer accidents lead to approximately 26,000 injuries each year in the US and approximately 200 fatalaties.
