Odds slashed for one Wexford club team to claim Wexford Senior hurling glory

With four games played in the group stages of the Wexford Senior hurling championship, the tables have started to take shape…

From the four games played, Rathnure have won four of their games.

Rathnure, who were only promoted to the Wexford Senior hurling championship following their win in the Intermediate Championship, sit on top of the table.

In their four games, Rahunre have defeated Crossabeg, Naomh Eanna, Ferns and most recently St Annes.

Ahead of the championship, the newly-promoted Rahnure side were priced with odds of 40/1 with most major bookmakers.

However, with four wins on the board, the bookies are no longer taking their chances and they have slashed their odds to claim the title.

In most major bookmakers, including PaddyPower, Rathnure’s priced has been slashed into 4/1 – now second favourites to win the Wexford Senior hurling championship outright. Rathnure last won the Wexford Senior Hurling Championship in 2006.

St Martins are still the front-runners according to the bookies, priced at 6/5. Just like Rathnure, St Martins are yet to lose a game – sitting at the top of their respective group table with 8 points from four games with wins over Faythe Harriers, Rapparees, Oulart, and Glynn-Barntown. Ahead of the Championship, St Martins were priced as 5/2 favourites.

There’s no doubt that both the Martins and Rathnure seem like the teams to beat in this year’s championship, based on current form – but the Wexford Senior Championship often throws in some shocks. The final round – Round 5 – is due to take place the weekend of 7th September, which will finalise the group standings.

In the betting, St Annes can be secured at 6/1, Naomh Eanna at 13/2, and Faythe Harriers at 10/1. The remaining teams can be secured at 14/1 and above.
