New popular store to open soon in Wexford town

A new popular store is set to open soon in Wexford…

The three-storey building went under the hammer in 2023, and sold for €2.25 million, following the passing of the late Colman Doyle who previously owned the building.

It had then emerged that Irish department store, Guineys, had purchased the property.

Guineys has a wide range of high-quality home furnishings, curtains, bedding, baby clothing, and nursery items at Ireland’s leading online department store.

Michael Guineys first opened its doors in 1971 on Thomas Street in Dublin. Now, Guineys has twelve different stores across Ireland in Leinster, Munster, Connacht & Ulster.

Regarding the Wexford store, the building was sitting idle for the past two years, but over the past two months, there has been extensive work done on the property.

A store manager has been hired – and they are now putting the final touches on the property, including placing the new signage on the store-front.

Local Wexford councillor, Leonard Kelly, was quick to highlight the new signage, noting that the shop – once opened – will create more footfall for the town:

“Great to see the sign go up. This will create a lot more footfall on South Main Street when the store opens in the weeks ahead,” he said.

Guineys was meant to open in Wexford in mid-August 2025, but the date has been pushed back further – with no official opening date on record.

However, one can assume that with the new signage, with new hires, and with the plans now firmly in place, it won’t be long until they open their doors to Wexford shoppers.

On September 25th, we reached out to Guiney’s to see if they have any further information on their opening date:

“All things going to plan, we hope to open early October. We are stacking out the shelves at the moment so the final touches are being done. We will announce when we are officially opening soon when we have a definite date,” they told Wexford Weekly.

Since then, Guineys have since revealed the official opening date for their new Wexford store. They will open their doors to the public on Wednesday, October 8th, revealing the news on their official Instagram page.

Given the excitement for this store to open, one can only assume it’s going to be a roaring success.
