Wexford Pride Annual Symposium centres the voices of Co. Wexford’s LGBTQIA+ community

Wexford Pride’s 2nd Annual Symposium returns this year at  High Meadows’ Community Hub from 10 am – 4pm on Saturday, 28th September…

Wexford Pride is a voluntary community organisation led by and for the LGBTQIA+ community in Co.Wexford. It works to empower, celebrate and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and its diverse experiences, identities and cultures.

The symposium is the creation of a collective of Wexford Pride community members to platform shared knowledge, interests, perspectives and causes while fundraising to support the 100+ community-led spaces, groups and peer support spaces that take place throughout the year.

Last year’s event raised nearly €600.00, contributing to Pride Goes to Prom – Wexford’s first LGBTQIA+ second-chance prom/debs celebration, organised by Wexford Pride community members.

Building upon the success of last year’s event, this year, a portion of funds will go toward the development of Wexford Pride LGBTQIA+ Retreat taking place this autumn.

“Our community is powered by the skills, creativity and fearlessness of LGBTQIA+ people and allies challenging injustice we face from the ground up. Communities thrive when we cultivate spaces that embrace and empower what is unique to each of us, coming together to form something greater than ourselves. There is huge power in that, and the annual symposium really speaks to that.” – Rían Browne (Public Relations Officer)

Now in its second year, the Symposium invites members of the LGBTQIA+ community to prepare a short presentation on a topic, interest or cause they’re passionate about. Last year’s presentations spanned topics including human rights, reconnecting with nature and biodiversity, the history of the Irish LGBTQIA+ movement, spirituality, sexual fluidity, languages of protest and more.

Since 2019, Wexford Pride has evolved from a yearly celebration into a county-wide grassroots organisation working to empower, celebrate, and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community in all its diversity.

In addition to Wexford Prides’ annual Pride celebration, we also host a calendar of social events, peer support spaces, and interest-based groups throughout the year while engaging in efforts in solidarity with community members and allies to support the realisation of social justice and equality on a local and national level.

Tickets are €10.00 and are available to purchase via wexfordpride.ie or at the door on the day.
