A familiar face from County Wexford is set to grace our television screens once again…
Ferrycarrig native Ruth Codd has been announced as one of the contestants on the upcoming celebrity edition of hit TV series The Traitors.
The 28-year-old Wexford actress, who has enjoyed a remarkable rise to stardom over the past few years, will compete against a cast of well-known personalities in the highly anticipated show.
The Traitors is a psychological reality competition where a group of contestants work together on tasks to build up a prize fund. However, hidden among the group are a few “Traitors” who secretly plot to eliminate the others, known as the “Faithfuls.”
Each episode sees the players trying to identify and banish the Traitors before they themselves are “murdered” from the game. The tension, mind games, and dramatic reveals have made it a hugely popular format since its launch, and the celebrity version is expected to add an extra layer of intrigue and entertainment.
Ruth Codd’s journey to this point has been anything but ordinary.
Growing up in Ferrycarrig, just outside Wexford town, Ruth spent her childhood in a local housing estate with her parents and younger brother, as well as time on her grandmother’s farm riding horses. Her life took a dramatic turn when, at just 15 years old, she suffered a serious football injury to her foot. Despite multiple surgeries, the injury never fully healed, and ongoing pain led to her making the difficult decision to have her right leg amputated below the knee when she was 23.
Rather than letting this define her, Ruth reinvented herself. She had been working as a barber and make-up artist before the COVID-19 pandemic cost her that job, and she turned to TikTok to share funny videos and raise awareness about disability.
Her content, including comedic skits featuring a mischievous nun character, quickly went viral, amassing over 600,000 followers.
Casting agents took notice, and she landed her breakout role as Anya in The Midnight Club on Netflix. Since then, she has gone on to appear in acclaimed series such as The Fall of the House of Usher and Creepshow, with her feature film debut set to come in the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon.
Now, as she prepares to take on The Traitors, Ruth’s star continues to rise — and there’s no doubt that Wexford will be proudly cheering her on.
