New Rathnure bowls team enjoy first competitive games

A new Rathnure bowls team was recently set up and they had their first games last Thursday…

Rathnure joined the Wexford Bowls League with two mixed teams. The Rathnure Black and Amber teams played their first league games on the 2nd of October.

The club was started by Jim O’Connell approximately one year ago.

“With borrowed equipment, the club has gone from strength to strength. At the moment, we have twenty plus members,” Christy Banks, the club PRO said.

Rathnure Black claimed the home advantage while Rathnure Amber played away from home in Enniscorthy. Both teams’ results favoured the oponents.

However, speaking to Christy Banks – the club’s new PRO – he said it was a big step forward:

“It nevertheless was a giant step forward for the fairly new Rathnure Bowls Club. The competing members learned a lot about the level needed in the league. Onwards and upwards is the order of the day,” he said.
