Two Wexford men feature on winning hurling team at Australasia Games 2025

The Australasia Games 2025 hurling tournament took place in Brisbane, Australia, last weekend…

The Victoria team were crowned champions after a thrilling final against Western Australia, which finished level at 2-20 apiece after extra time.

The match was eventually decided on penalties, with Victoria winning 4-2 in the shootout.

The victory has a strong Wexford connection – Conor Butler from Askamore featured on the victorious Victoria side, while the team was managed by Darren Murphy from Oulart-The Ballagh.

Speaking to Wexford Weekly after the title win, Conor said:

“They actually bet us in the 2024 final, so it was nice to get our redemption this year with a win in the competition. It was great to be a part of,” he said.

It was an outstanding display of hurling and a fantastic showcase of the game’s strength across the Australasian region.

In related hurling news, the Wexford Senior hurling championship semi-finals will take place today, October 12th, and the teams have been named for the clashes. Meanwhile, Crossabeg-Ballymurn lost out to Oylegate-Glenbrien in the relegation final yesterday evening – and Crossabeg will play in the Intermediate Hurling Championship for 2026.
