A former Wexford hurler has made a bold call for Lee Chin…
Former Wexford hurler, Rory Jacob, was the most recent guest on The Wexford Hurling Podcast. Speaking on the most recent Wexford Hurling Podcast, the former Wexford corner-forward has called on his clubmate and Wexford Senior hurling manager Keith Rossiter to look at potentially changing Lee Chin’s position.
Faythe Harriers clubman Chin has been Wexford’s star forward for the past several years. With Rory O’Connor and Conor McDonald’s absence for the 2026 season, Wexford are somewhat depleted of star quality in attack. However, Jacob has called for Rossiter to look at Lee Chin in the centre-back position for the Wexford Senior hurling team.
The Oulart-The Ballagh clubman believes it’s something worth looking at, especially against teams such as Dublin who will be targetting John Hetherton with high route one balls into our full-back line.
“In fairness to our back time, they did well enough against Dublin. But we’re not the biggest back line in the country. We’re lacking a bit of size there. I was thinking and wondering to myself… would it be worth putting Lee Chin back there in the half-back line?”
“He’s getting targetted in the forwards a lot in the forwards now with other teams that have players to play on him. I am wondering if it would also give Lee a new lease of life too to put him into the number 6 jersey and to create that sort of scenario for us. We lack size and physicality in the backs — which may be something that could come back to bite us. We’ll see – but hopefully it’s something that the lads will think about,” he said.
“I’d be looking at it… maybe against a Dublin who would be targetting us. They’ll be going route 1, lumped it down on top of us, thinking there’s a weakness in that way. Maybe it’s something we could do for the Dublin game you could put Lee centre-back and Liam Ryan full back. They would be comfortable enough.”
“Clare brought back John Conlan a couple of years ago. Everyone said why are they taking him out of the forwards. It’s quite possibly a mad one – but I’d be quite worried about the phsysical profile of our backs when it comes down to high balls coming down on top of them. Maybe it’s something tactically we could look at,” Jacob said.
