Wexford’s star forward to opt out of Senior panel to go travelling

The Wexford Senior hurlers will be without their talisman as the new season approaches…

St Martins clubman, Rory O’Connor, is to opt out of the Wexford Senior hurling panel for 2026. The Irish Independent have today reported that he may miss the entire campaign as he sets sail Down Under.

O’Connor’s decision to opt out of the panel this season will come as a huge blow to Wexford manager, Keith Rossiter.

The St Martins attacker has been one of Wexford’s most consistent players over the past number of years. The speedy, skillful, and versatile St Martins man is Wexford’s go-to player in attack and he poses a significant threat in front of goal. For many, he would be the first name on the Wexford team-sheet.

The news also comes as Charlie McGuckin (Naomh Eanna) and Eoin Ryan (St Annes) have also opted out of the Wexford Senior hurling panel to go travelling.

Other players such as Liam Ryan, Conor McDonald, Cathal Dunbar and Lee Chin may not be available for the start of Wexford’s campaign for 2026 either.

Wexford will play in Divison 1B of the Allianz Hurling League for 2026. Their first game in the League is a home clash against Antrim on January 24th.
