Three Wexford players named on GAA Teams of the Week

Castletown’s Darragh Brooks earns the football honour after playing a key role in Wexford’s dramatic victory over Westmeath.

The Model County sealed promotion to Division 2 in stunning fashion, with a last-gasp goal capping off a brilliant team display. Attention now turns to next week’s Division 3 League final; although Wexford have momentum going into the clash, they’ll face an excellent side when they take on Down in Croke Park.

In relation to the hurling, which took place on Saturday, Damien Reck (Oylegate) and Jack Redmond are both included in the GAA.ie Hurling Team of the Week after standout displays in their final group clash against Kildare.

Even though the tie was effectively a dead rubber, Wexford showed no signs of easing off, delivering a dominant performance and racking up an impressive scoreline. Redmond’s tally of 3-03 from play was a particular highlight and it’s something that’s sure to delight Wexford fans as the Leinster Championship looms.

The result provides a timely boost ahead of their championship opener, also against Kildare, where Wexford will look to carry this form into a more meaningful encounter.

The story of the weekend was no doubt the Wexford Senior Footballers and their last-gasp goal to secure promotion in the dying seconds. John Hegarty’s side will be looking forward to a trip to Croke Park to take on Down next Saturday in the Allianz League final.

On Saturday, March 28, the Allianz Football League finals take place at Croke Park, with a double-header taking place at Headquarters.

The Division 4 final sees Longford face Carlow at 5pm, followed by the Division 3 final between Down and Wexford at 7.15pm. Both matches will be broadcast live on TG4.
