Boost for Wexford Senior hurlers ahead of Dublin clash

Wexford Senior hurling manager, Keith Rossiter, has been handed a boost ahead of this weekend’s clash…

Wexford will take on Dublin this Saturday at 4pm as part of a double-header in Wexford Park with the Wexford Senior Footballers.

The Wexford hurlers enter the Round 3 clash against Dublin after suffering a heavy defeat to Kilkenny in Round 2.

The two-week break seems to have stood to the team though.

Fethard St Mogues player, Cian Byrne, is putting his hand up for selection after a hamstring injury kept him out of action for the opening rounds. The Wexford attacker poses a signifcant scoring threat in the inside forward line — an area which Wexford seemed to struggle with against Kilkenny last time out, with the Kilkenny full-back line picking up most balls that went in or ricocheted off Lee Chin.

It’s not all positive news coming out of the camp though. It’s believed that one of Wexford’s star performers against Kilkenny, Shane Reck, may be ruled out of the upcoming clash against Dublin. Given Reck’s man-marking ability, he would be a huge loss against a Dublin side with an array of talent in their attack.

One of those players that troubled Wexford in the past is their full-forward, John Hetherton. Liam Ryan returned to action against Kilkenny, but could not continue for the whole game. With another two weeks of training under his belt, it’s hoped that the Rapparees man will be tasked with marking the big full-forward and keeping him quiet for the whole game. Another man that Wexford will need to keep a close eye on is their sharp-shooter, Donál Burke; giving away silly frees against Dublin will be punished with him on the field too.

Dublin enter the clash as 4/6 favourites.
