Wexford football player completes move to English League 2 side

A Wexford man has completed a move to an English League 2 side…

Wexford defender Ryan Delaney has completed a move to English League Two club Oldham Athletic.

Delaney has joined the Latics for one year after leaving Swindon Town, where he also spent part of last season on loan with Newport County.

The 29-year-old brings a wealth of Football League experience to Boundary Park, having made almost 250 professional appearances across England and Ireland.

Oldham returned to the English Football League after winning promotion from the National League and will be hoping Delaney’s leadership and experience can strengthen their defence as they look to establish themselves in League Two.

The New Ross native first made his name with Wexford (Youths) FC before earning a move to Championship side Burton Albion in 2016.

Since then, he has enjoyed spells with Cork City, Rochdale, AFC Wimbledon, Bolton Wanderers, Morecambe, Scunthorpe United, Newport County and Swindon Town, building a reputation as a dependable centre-half with extensive EFL experience.

Wexford defender Delaney will be aiming to make an immediate impact for Oldham ahead of the new League Two campaign.
