Four projects across County Wexford are set to receive a combined €18.3 million in Government funding under the new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund…
The funding forms part of a major €409 million national investment programme, announced by Minister and Wexford TD James Browne, which will support almost 120 regeneration projects across every local authority area in the country.
The new fund is designed to support the regeneration of towns and cities, with a particular focus on the redevelopment of vacant and underused sites, improvements to public spaces and investment in community and civic infrastructure.
In County Wexford, the largest allocations will see €9 million each awarded to the Enniscorthy Town Centre First Regeneration Project – Phase 1 and the John Street Urban Revival Project in New Ross.
A further €150,000 will be provided for the Templeshannon Hub and Link Project in Enniscorthy, while €150,000 has also been allocated for Cornmarket to Common Quay Public Space Improvements in Wexford Town.
Together, the four projects account for €18.3 million of the national funding programme and will support both major regeneration projects and the development of future public-realm improvements across the county.
Part of €409 million national investment
The Wexford allocations are part of the first round of the new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund, which replaces the former Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.
The national programme will provide up to €409 million for almost 120 projects. The investment will target transformative projects that can help regenerate town and city centres, including public realm improvements, community infrastructure and the redevelopment of vacant or underused sites.
Projects have been divided into two categories.
Category 1A projects will support longer-term projects that are expected to be delivered in the later years of the National Development Plan. This category includes projects that require further planning, design and development before construction can begin.
Category 1B focuses on projects that can be delivered in the short term, with up to €9 million in shared funding available for projects that can be on-site by September 2027.
The Government says the investment is intended to provide local authorities with the resources to progress ambitious regeneration plans while also developing a pipeline of projects that can deliver improvements to town and city centres over the coming years.
For County Wexford, the €18.3 million allocation will support projects in Enniscorthy, New Ross and Wexford Town, providing funding for major regeneration works as well as the development of future projects.
