Wexford football player signs for English Championship side

A Wexford footballer has signed a contract with an professional football side in England…

Wexford native, Oisin McDonagh, has signed a contract with English football side, Queen’s Park Rangers (QPR).

The 18-year-old defender arrives from Italian outfit Venezia, where he spent two seasons with the Serie A side.

McDonagh is currently part of the Republic of Ireland’s U19 squad, having helped his nation’s U17s make history by qualifying for the FIFA U17 World Cup for the first time in 2025.

The youngster is now targeting more trophies in England with the 2024/25 Premier League Cup winners and reigning London Senior Cup champions.

“I just got a really good feeling about the place and knew this is where I want to be now and where I want to push on as a player. I’m really excited to be part of a group which is winning trophies and hopefully we can have more success this season.”

McDonagh is making his name as a ball-playing centre-half and is looking forward to showcasing his defensive duties in W12.

“I like being on the ball, playing out from the back and playing through the lines. But being a centre-back, I also love the art of defending and ultimately keeping the ball out of the goal.”
