A County Wexford pub and take-away was issued with a closure order from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland…
Furlong’s Bar & Lounge and Nellie’s Takeaway in Curracloe were ordered to close by the Health Service Executive (HSE) following concerns over pest control at the premises.
A closure order dated September 30, 2026, was issued under the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Act 1998, requiring all of the premises to close with immediate effect. The pub and take-away has since reopened their premises.
According to the order, the HSE identified evidence of rodent activity in the kitchen and food storage areas, including mouse droppings behind two chest freezers and two dead mice behind a drinks shelving unit in the food storage room.
The order also stated that in-house pest control checks carried out on September 29 did not document any evidence of rodent activity, despite the presence of the droppings and dead mice, which were at different stages of decomposition.
A gap between the takeaway service door hatch and its surrounding architrave was also identified as a potential entry point for pests.
The closure order cited a breach of Regulation (EC) 852/2004, which requires adequate procedures to be in place to control pests.
The HSE stated that the premises must remain closed until a court issues an order to the contrary or the HSE provides further written direction.
The closure order was dated September 30, 2026. The County Wexford pub and take-away reopened to the public one week later on October 7th when the closure order was lifted. The Wexford business was one of 12 businesses hit with closure orders in September.
