Angry Wexford Club GAA Player Sends Email To Club Players Association

One Wexford GAA club player has finally had enough…

Wexford GAA revealed their proposed fixture plan this evening.

The opening rounds of the hurling championship will be played from Friday July 31 when GAA club matches are set to resume.

There is speculation that the four three-team groups will play over the first two weekends in August with a midweek game in between, and the final concluding on August 23rd.

The the GAA’s revised inter-county structure will determine the dates for the remaining fixtures. Wexford GAA stated that they will wait until they receive that plan before they confirm any additional club fixtures.

The Wexford football championship will commence once the hurling championships reach their final stages.

A Wexford club player, who wished to remain anonymous due to fear of ostracisation, has sent a letter to the Club Players Association.

The letter shows his anger with the current situation surrounding the club versus county fixture schedule debate.

The fixtures, and the divide between the club player and the county player, was a huge problem for the GAA well-before the Coronavirus pandemic emerged in Ireland. The pandemic has, of course, made it a lot more difficult to plan fixtures over a specific time period.

During a time when club players have been pillars to their local communities, they now must be rewarded with an adequate fixture plan that supports the many, and not the few.

  1. The Club is what the GAA is all about. Forget about the County Teams for this year and go back to the grass roots of catering to the clubs as there would be no
county teams without them. There are more players in a club so they should have the power to get a petitions signed by their members and turn the advantage back to the club. So buckle down and organize and don’t let the Clubs be walked on again.
