Keith Rossiter highlights difficulty he had while managing Wexford hurlers

Keith Rossiter’s tenure as Wexford Senior hurling manager came to an end after the most recent inter-county campaign…

Waterford native, Derek McGrath, was then appointed to the role. McGrath, who will start this year, was appointed on a three-year term.

Speaking to TheSun, Keith Rossiter highlighted multiple difficulties he faced while being Wexford Senior hurling manager:

“The way I’d see it is that Wexford need everyone available to play. We’re a small county and we’re a dual county. John Hegarty is doing a great job with the footballers.”

“Are there players on the football team who would make the hurling team? Yes, there are. I’ve seen them. But they’re footballers. And John could say vice versa. That’s what we’re managing. It’s very hard to be masters in one when you’re trying to go strong in two.”

“But there are still some nice players coming through from the Under-20s, as there was during my tenure. It’s going to take a bit of time. Some of the older fellas are coming back into the set-up, which will be good for the younger lads as well. The key to it is that we have everyone playing, which we haven’t had. Hopefully the mix will come right next year.”

The likes of Rory O’Connor, Conor McDonald, and Charlie McGuckin did not feature for Wexford in Rossiter’s last year in charge of the Model County. Likewise, in his first year with the Wexford Senior hurling team, he was hit with multiple retirements from long-serving players such as Dee O’Keeffe and Matthew O’Hanlon, big leaders within the squad.

The Oulart The Ballagh man also noted that he did not have the rub of the green in some games disussing the ghost goal against Dublin and the TJ Reid penalty against Kilkenny the previous year.

In related Wexford hurling news, Shelmaliers were crowned 2026 Wexford Senior hurling champions on Sunday. They overcame the odds (3/1) to defeat Rathnure in the final at Wexford Park.
