Wexford GAA Club Stops All Activity As A Covid-19 Precaution

Both Wexford and the Coronavirus are starting to make the headlines again…

Wexford’s Camogie association postponed a number of games as a Covid-19 precaution. A statement released by Wexford Camogie noted that a number of club players may have been in contact with someone who had tested positive for Coronavirus.

On Monday 17th August, two Wexford Senior Camogie games were postponed; HWH Bunclody vs Kilrush, and Clone Gaels (Monageer & Ferns) vs Oylegate were postponed.

Along with Senior games, the Intermediate quarter-final between Duffry Rovers and Castletown was postponed, while the Blackwater vs Clone Gaels game in the Junior C championship, which was scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed too.

It has now emerged that Ferns St Aidans have suspended all activity as a Covid-19 precaution. It’s worth noting that the games that Wexford Camogie postponed included Clone Gaels, which are an amalgamated team of both Ferns St-Aidans and Monageer/Bollavogue.

The news of Ferns St Aidans suspending all activity also comes after Cois na hAbhann Garden Centre, located in Camolin, have also decided to temporarily close their doors after a member of their staff tested positive for Covid-19.

“A decision has been made to suspend all GAA activities at Ferns GAA club until further notice. This is a precautionary measure and there is no positive case in the club. All GAA and HSE guidelines have been followed and we await further advice from the HSE team,” a statement read from Ferns St-Aidans.

As this is only a precaution, we must again applaud Ferns St Aidans for taking swift action here as the safety of their players, their management, and the community is paramount.
