Another School In Wexford Confirms Positive Coronavirus Case

Another school in Wexford has confirmed a positive Covid-19 case…

Loreto Secondary School, based on Pembroke Street in Wexford town, is the second Wexford school to confirm a positive Covid-19 case. The news comes after a national school in New Ross recently confirmed a positive case.

Wexford Weekly can reveal that a student in the school tested positive.

A letter was sent home to parents of children in the school, notifying them of the situation.

“The student did not attend school during her assumed infectious period and therefore no close or casual contacts have been identified in the school,” the letter from the school’s principal, Billy O’Shea, read.

As a result, the school remains open and teaching continues in the all-girls school in Wexford town.

With the Coroanvirus still prominent in our society and with rising cases in Wexford, positive cases in schools are likely to increase too.

The Government recently released a ‘Living with Covid-19’ plan, which shows that keeping the schools open is absolutely paramount. Even if the county, or country, enters ‘Level 5’, which would see a huge increase in cases, schools are likely to remain open under the new guidelines.

We must remember that this virus still exists in our society; we should continue washing our hands frequently, continue to social distance where possible, wear our masks.

We also should note this virus will be here for a while yet, but it’s important not to stigmatise Covid-19, people with the virus, or schools or business, that are constantly dealing with — and trying to operate as usual — despite the virus’ existence.

Editor’s Note: Information about schools with a positive Covid-19 case should be public knowledge. The Government will not publish this information publicly. If you know of any other schools across County Wexford with a positive Covid-19 case or a cluster, send us a message on Facebook or Twitter. Your anonymity will be protected.
