Wexford GAA Apologise After U-13 Football Final Postponed For Bizarre Reason

An u-13 Coiste na nOg football final was due to take place this evening at Wexford Park…

An u13 Football final at Wexford Park between St Mary’s Maudlintown and the combined team of Our Lady’s Island and St Fintans

The game was an u-13 Division 5 Football Final, due to take place at 7:00 pm this evening at Wexford’s county grounds.

Both sets of teams had their warm ups complete and were ready to go.

Quite bizarrely though, the u-13 game had to be postponed because no goalposts were available for the game. U-13s do not use the full-size pitch, and instead, smaller goalposts are needed.

St Mary’s Maudlintown released a statement, which was followed by social media anger and frustration highlighting how it was not good enough for the underage players.

The game has since been re-fixed for Monday 21st June at 7:00 pm in Wexford Park.

Wexford GAA have since apologised for the situation:

“Wexford GAA and Coiste na nÒg Loch Garman wish to unreservedly apologise to the players and family members of St Marys Maudlintown, St Fintans and Our Lady’s Island for the mistakes that caused the cancellation of the Under 13 fixture yesterday evening. We regret the upset to the young players and their mentors in particular. The game has been refixed for Monday evening in Chadwicks Wexford Park. Coiste na nÒg Loch Garman have successfully organised 19 finals since 7th June with 8 more to follow in the coming days. All have been held under strict Covid guidelines. We have reviewed the matter from yesterday evening and will ensure that is not repeated. Coiste na nOg Loch Garman appreciate the patience and understanding of both clubs and thank them for agreeing to replay the fixture as soon as was possible. We also appreciate the significant voluntary effort to complete our fixture schedule and the administrative efforts to organise the refixture have commenced this morning,” the statement read.
