Wexford U-20 Hurlers Lose At The Death To Kildare

The Wexford u-20 hurlers were out in action this evening…

The Wexford u-20 hurlers lost out to Kildare in Newbridge this evening.

The game ended on a score-line of 0-16 – 1-12 in favour of the Lilywhites.

Wexford were behind for most of the game and they failed to take full advantage of the extra-man, after Kildare midfielder Harry Dunne received his marching orders in the later stages of the first half in the 29th minute.

The Yellowbellies had clawed back into the game and were one point up six minutes into the eight minute of injury time after AJ Redmond rattled the net for Wexford from the penalty spot and a follow-up point from Wexford substitute Mark Byrne.

It looked like Wexford had just about secured victory, but a gutsy Kildare side, who brought manic intensity to the game from the offset, clawed back at the death as centre-forward Liam Dempsey scored two quick-fire points to mark his 14th for the day and an historic win for the Kildare u-20 hurlers.

Kildare, who were fully-deserving of their victory this evening against Wexford, will now march into quarter-final of the u20 Leinster Championship Hurling Championship against either Kilkenny or Offaly.

Meanwhile, Wexford’s u-20 hurling season has now ended and it’ll be back to the drawing board.
