Darragh Egan Gives Timeline For Rory O’Connor And Matthew O’Hanlon Return

Darragh Egan recently named his Wexford team to take on Galway in the opening round of the Allianz Hurling League…

Some glaring omissions from the match-day squad were the experienced heads of Lee Chin, Matthew O’Hanlon, and Rory O’Connor.

Likewise, another player, that looked likely to be starting on the team – but isn’t, is Richie Lawlor. Lawlor was taken off at half-time in a recent Fitzgibbon match following an injury. The extent of the injury has now been revealed with the young Wexford town native fracturing a bone in his foot.

While Lee Chin’s return date is still unknown, the Wexford Senior hurling manager, Darragh Egan, provided an update on when we could see both Matthew O’Hanlon and Rory O’Connor return to action.

Speaking to Wexford GAA sponsor, Donohoe Skoda, Darragh Egan said:

“We’re very much trialling our panel at present and we’ll continue to do so in the League.”

“Looking ahead to the next six week block, we have five games in six weeks.”

“It’s a lot of games; you are going to pick up injuries and that’s the realities. You have to develop at least 20 bodies that can take the field any day.”

“For the first two rounds of the league, we’ll be without Rory O’Connor and potentially without Matthew O’Hanlon. It’s also very important that we look at certain lads in certain positions, and that’s the plan. We’ll go at it hammer and thongs and that’s what we intend to do,” Egan stated.

Throw-in for the Wexford-Galway match will take place at 5pm on Saturday, Feb 4th.
