Darragh Egan Gives Timeline For Rory O’Connor And Liam Ryan Return

Wexford suffered a heavy defeat to Clare on Sunday in Chadwicks Wexford Park…

While the performance was not up to scratch and it’s important not to make excuses, it’s also important to realise that the Wexford team was a depleted one.

Stars such as Lee Chin, Rory O’Connor, and Liam Ryan were all unavailable due to injury.

Some positive news is that both Rory O’Connor and Lee Chin will be in contention for a place on the panel for the remaining two Allianz League games, despite Darragh Egan telling RTE that Chin may be rested until the Championship.

Wexford’s defence, which leaked six goals against Clare, will be worried by the fact that Liam Ryan, the star full-back of the team, will not be in contention for the remaining two Allianz Hurling League games where they’ll face both Cork and the in-form Limerick, both matches which will take place away from home.

Ryan suffered a finger ligament laceration against Westmeath and he will not be available until the start of the championship, all going well with his recovery.

With Matthew O’Hanlon expected to come back to the team, it would be no surprise to see the St James’ club man and former captain of the team placed into the full-back position to steady the defence a little.
