Darragh Egan Names Wexford Senior Hurling Team To Take On Galway

Darragh Egan has named his Wexford team to take on Galway in the opening round of the Allianz Hurling League…

This weekend’s game will also double down as the Walsh Cup final decider, meaning that there’s silverware at stake.

There will be just one newcomer making his Allianz National Hurling League debut, as Conor Foley from Horsewood has been named in the wing-back position.

One glaring omission from the starting fifteen and panel is Faythe Harriers club man, Lee Chin. With Chin’s absence, Damien Reck, named in the centre-back position, has been handed the captaincy.

Likewise, another player, that looked likely to be starting on the team – but isn’t, is Richie Lawlor. Lawlor was taken off at half-time in a recent Fitzgibbon match following an injury. The extent of the injury has now been revealed with the young Wexford town native fracturing a bone in his foot.

Wexford will be hoping that their youthful bench will be able to bring energy to the team once they’re introduced into the game.

Egan couldn’t find room for one Wexford hurler who recently returned from travels and joined back up with the team.

In related news, the Wexford-Galway match will be broadcasted live on television this weekend. It will be live on Irish television broadcaster, TG4.

Throw-in for the match will take place at 5pm on Saturday, Feb 4th.
