Wexford Vs Kilkenny Leinster championship match will not be broadcasted this week

The Wexford Senior hurlers will take on Westmeath this weekend…

After the GAA announced their scheduled televised fixtures, it has emerged that the Wexford v Kilkenny match will not be shown on RTE this weekend.

Likewise, it is not up on the GAA Go platform as a scheduled match.

It means that the only way to watch this match will be to actually attend the game in Chadwicks Wexford Park.

Former Wexford hurler and now-pundit Tom Dempsey has called for Wexford hurling supporters to arrive in Wexford Park in large numbers, for a match that is being dubbed as important – if not more important – than Wexford’s All-Ireland final in 1996.

A loss against Kilkenny, along with a win for Antrim against Westmeath, would see Wexford relegated to the Joe McDonagh Cup for the following season.

It comes following Wexford’s sub-standard Leinster Championship campaign, whereby the suffered losses to both Dublin and more recently, Westmeath, in a game that Wexford fans will be wishing to forget.

Wexford’s Chairman, Micháel Martin, who responded to criticism of the Wexford Senior hurling team and Wexford GAA’s organisational set-up as a whole on South East Radio, has also encouraged the Wexford supporters to arrive in numbers this weekend.

It’s a huge game for the Wexford Senior hurling team, and although their season has ended in terms of further progression into the All-Ireland stages, there’s arguably a much bigger stake on this weekend’s game now as it could see Wexford regress even further.
