Watch: Fan footage of Cathal Dunbar’s side-line point when Wexford really needed it

The highly-anticipated Wexford and Kilkenny Leinster Championship match took place in Chadwicks Wexford Park this afternoon….

It was do-or-die for Wexford as a loss would have seen them relegated to the Joe McDonagh Cup for 2024. Wexford emerged as two point victors in a pulsating and memorable game of hurling.

A number of talking points went somewhat went under the radar due to the fact that the highly-entertaining game was not broadcasted on RTE or GAAGo.

One was Liam Óg McGovern’s crucial one-handed goal in the second-half after some clever thinking in the build up by Conor McDonald and Kevin Foley.

Another was Cathal Dunbar’s side-line. Dunbar was only introduced as a 56th minute substitute, but he managed to find himself on the scoresheet twice, raising two white flags.

The pick of his scores was his side-line, caught on camera by Wexford hurling supporter, John Adams. Although Dunbar is somewhat of a maestro at side-lines, there was a lot of pressure on this one and it was a point that Wexford really needed to bring Wexford back level late on in the game.

Today’s result means that Wexford survive relegation and that they will be playing in the Leinster Championship next season, while Westmeath have been relegated.
