New ownership for popular Wexford bar and restaurant

A well-known restaurant in Wexford has announced it will close its doors next month…

Thankfully, however, The Slaney Inn doors will not be closed for too long as the current owners have confirmed that they have sourced a buyer for the property.

Willie Kavanagh reccently confirmed to the Enniscorthy Guardian that local businessman, Michael Stamp — of Stamp’s Bus Hire — will be purchasing the property after making a “good offer” to buy the restaurant and pub.

The Kavanaghs confirmed the news in a heartfelt message to customers, thanking the community for its support and reflecting on the many memories created there over the past number of years.

Both Willie Kavanagh and Catherine Kavanagh are retiring after more than 32 years of service at The Slaney Inn, a bar and restaurant in Oylegate Co. Wexford.

Their son, Mark Kavanagh, owned the restaurant in the building for the past 8 years. After more than eight years serving locals and visitors, the restaurant will be closing their doors as a result.

In a statement, Mark reflected on the many occasions celebrated in the restaurant since it opened.

“We’ve had the privilege of celebrating many milestones with you, birthdays, hosting family dinners, celebrations of life, friendly catch-ups, and so many unforgettable moments around our tables,” the message read.

The team also expressed deep gratitude to customers who supported the business throughout its journey.

“As we move into retirement and new ventures, we do so with full hearts and deep gratitude. Your loyalty, support, laughter, and encouragement have been the foundation of our success. Every visit, every kind word, every recommendation to a friend, it has meant the world to us.”

The restaurant confirmed that its final day of service will be April 4th, with the bar set to finish trading the following week. Customers are being encouraged to visit the venue one last time before the restaurant closes.

“Until then, we would love to welcome you in to share one more meal, one more toast, and one more memory together.”

The business also reminded customers that any outstanding vouchers for the restaurant must be redeemed before April 4th 2026.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our story. It has truly been an honor to serve you.”

It will be interesting to see what’s next for this premises in the village of Oylegate.
