Both Starlights and Sarsfields handed blows before Wexford Senior Football Championship

It’s not the news that either of these teams would have wanted…

But, both the Starlights and the Sarsfields will be preparing for this weekend’s opening round of the Wexford Senior Football Championship without some of their key players.

It was first reported by Peter Mernagh of Wexford GAA TV that Kevin Foley would not be featuring for the Starlights Senior Football team for 2023.

That report has now been validated after the Starlights have named their side for the opening clash, which does not feature Foley. Foley, an inter-county hurler, is one of the best footballers for the Starlights team and he would be a major loss. Along with Foley, another key loss to the Starlights will be Ricky Fox, who has been one of the most consistent club footballers over the last number of years.

For the Sarsfields, it appears that Lee Chin has opted not to kick ball again. Last year, Chin decided not to play club football. Chin’s commission from the squad may be deeply felt though, with the Sarsfields heavily tipped to be relegated to the Intermediate Championship for 2024.

The Wexford Senior Football Championship takes place this weekend. The major bookies have released their odds for the outright winner, which can be viewed here.
