It will not be long until the Wexford hurlers put on the purple and gold jerseys again…
The Wexford hurlers will be back in action in January following the recent confirmation of the Walsh Cup fixtures from Leinster GAA.
The Walsh Cup is the pre-season competition for Leinster hurling.
Wexford have been placed into a group alongside Kilkenny and Carlow.
On Sunday, 14th Jan 2024, Wexford will play the losers of Kilkenny and Carlow, a game which takes place one week previous. If Carlow lose that clash, Wexford will play Carlow in Chadwicks Wexford Park.
However, if Carlow manage to beat Kilkenny, Wexford’s opening clash will be against the Cats in Nowlan Park on the same date, 14th Jan 2024, instead.
A win will see Wexford take on the winners of the Kilkenny/Carlow match in the semi-final stages of the Walsh Cup. This will take place the following week, on Sunday, 21st Jan 2024.
If Wexford are to overcome Kilkenny/Carlow in the semi-final, they will be placed into the final, where they will take on the winners of Group 2 vs Group 3.
Antrim, Dublin and Westmeath are in Group 2, while Laois, Offaly and Galway have been seeded in Group 3.
Although it is a pre-season competition, new manager Keith Rossiter will be hoping to test out some new players and lay down an early marker, with the hope of winning his first piece of silverware as Wexford Senior hurling manager.
Meanwhile, in related news, Wexford’s fixtures for the 2024 O’Byrne Cup have also been revealed by Leinster GAA.
