The Irish Grand National, which took place at Fairyhouse at 5pm today, is one of the biggest events on the Irish sporting calendar.

A Wexford man, JJ Slevin, was on board of the winner. Slevin is from Caim in County Wexford and he was a late selection to ride the horse, after Wexford native Daryl Jacob broke his collar-bone just last week.

Speaking to RTE directly after the race, the Wexford man stated:

“Let’s not forget Daryl. He’s watching at home. This will be tough to take for him. I’ve been lucky to pick up the ride, I’m very fortunate. I spoke to Daryl over the week – he was confident that he would win – and he was right,” he said.

He was riding Intense Raffles, a 6-year-old grey horse.
